5 Warning Signs Your Car Needs Brake Service

Your brakes wear down gradually, which means the warning signs often get ignored until they become impossible to miss — or dangerous. Here are five signs it is time to have your brakes inspected.

1. Squeaking or squealing

A high-pitched squeal when you brake is usually a built-in wear indicator letting you know the pads are getting thin. It is not an emergency yet, but it is time to book an inspection.

2. Grinding noise

A grinding sound means the pads are likely worn through completely and metal is contacting metal. This can damage your rotors and should be addressed immediately.

3. Soft or spongy brake pedal

If the pedal sinks closer to the floor than usual, it can point to air in the brake lines or a fluid leak — both are safety concerns.

4. Vehicle pulling to one side

Pulling under braking can mean uneven pad wear or a stuck caliper, which affects how evenly your car stops.

5. Vibration when braking

A pulsing or vibrating pedal usually means your rotors are warped and need to be resurfaced or replaced.

If any of this sounds familiar, Royal Auto Service offers a free brake inspection — call us or use the booking form on any page to get on the schedule.
